Harold Monfils (MY)

Harold Monfils was born in Portugal, has a Dutch passport, learnt English in Taiwan and grew up in Mexico, where in 1987 he joined the world of advertising, serving coffee at an international agency. He attended London Film School, got too cold, and moved to the sunny Caribbean where he learned the salsa, and started directing.

A highly accomplished film professional, Monfils has done every single job on a film set. His love for discovery has led him to 34 countries across the world, and to produce stunning film productions by engaging harmoniously with film crews from diverse cultures. Director of the internationally acclaimed feature documentary, Laya Project, Monfils is a people-director through and through – though he loves shooting other things as well. He claims to make great coffee, even now.

Monfils Pictures was founded on April 1st 1998, at the time known as Boo Films, as an online medium through which the work images and film-work of Harold Monfils could be displayed and documented. Film Director of the multiple award-winning Laya Project, his upcoming documentary is titled Hoka Hey, about photographer Jason P. Howe.
